Crackdown on Construction Safety Launches Across Queensland

Queensland, August 1, 2025 — Construction sites across the state will be under increased scrutiny over the next few months, as Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) rolls out a targeted compliance campaign.

From now until the end of September, inspectors will visit construction businesses to check the safe use of tools and equipment—both powered and manual. Key focus areas include machinery safety, PPE use, electrical hazards, silica dust, and ladder safety. Instant fines may apply for serious breaches.

This initiative is part of WHSQ’s long-term safety strategy, aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities in the industry. Businesses are encouraged to prepare by reviewing their safety systems and using WHSQ’s free resources, including checklists and self-assessment tools.

New rules also now apply, including mandatory hearing tests for workers exposed to loud noise and power shut-off requirements before entering roof spaces.
