RVT Group provides maintenance support to Sydney train network with Duratec

Project Overview

Since 2022, RVT Group has had a strong relationship with Duratec Australia, a leading provider of transport infrastructure remediation and maintenance services.

RVT Group recently teamed up with Duratec to strengthen the structures and longevity of the tunnels within the Sydney train network.

Challenge

The project involved considerable abrasive blasting and surface preparation of steel and concrete. These types of tasks create potential health risks involving lead dust from the paint and also silica dust in the preparation of concrete.

As is the case with most rail maintenance tasks that RVT works on, a key focus is on meeting project time frames, thereby helping to ensure minimal downtime throughout.

Solution

RVT Group engineered a system unique to the size of the tunnel and health risks involved. This included designing a dust collector that is small enough to fit onto a rail truck and therefore can be driven easily into the tunnel.

The collector manages both the silica and lead dust at the same time.

A key feature of the Duratec relationship is that RVT Group delivered and commissioned this solution on their site.
