Download our silica dust poster to hang in your site office, so that everyone is aware of their responsibilities:

Management Responsibilities:

  • Conduct suitable risk assessments & implement effective control measures.
  • Ensure your workforce understands the dangers of silica dust, and are properly trained on the use of any engineering controls and RPE you provide.
  • Regularly review control measures & schedule occupational health assessments.
  • If control measures fail, you must shut down the activity until you have a suitable replacement solution.

Worker Responsibilities:

  • Before starting work, familiarise yourself with the risk assessment and check that you have access to suitable extraction systems and RPE - do not start without it.
  • If a process or control measure isn’t working, tell management so they can find a better solution.
  • Always attend training, always follow procedures, always call out bad practice on site, and always attend your health assessments.
