Power Down, Generator On, Sound Suppressed With RVT Group

Construction
Project Overview

When a diesel generator was tasked with powering buildings in a busy Sydney street during a temporary power transition, the noise risk became a serious challenge. RVT Group was engaged to deliver an engineered sound control solution that protected workers and neighbours, met compliance, and kept operations running smoothly.

Challenge

The diesel generator (genset) supplying temporary power produced continuous noise that threatened to breach local urban sound limits.

The site was in a dense inner-city environment, meaning even modest noise from plant equipment could lead to complaints, regulatory scrutiny and disruption to surrounding businesses and residents.

The client needed a solution that would be installed quickly (to reduce downtime) and function reliably during extended operation.

Solution

RVT Group designed and installed a SOUNDEX® Generator Enclosure specifically adapted to the site’s constraints. Key components included:

  • A bespoke acoustic enclosure fully encapsulating the genset to reduce radiated noise.
  • Acoustic panels and sound-absorbing liners, to suppress generator tonal frequencies.
  • Integrated VENTEX® CF Fans to maintain airflow without compromising acoustic performance.
  • Exhaust attenuators to reduce noise at the exhaust source.
  • A streamlined installation plan to deliver the system rapidly with minimal interference to adjacent operations.
The Results

Significant noise reduction observed allowing compliance with urban sound criteria.

The generator continued to run reliably to support building services without interruption.

The solution protected the client from noise complaints, reputational risk, and potential regulatory enforcement.

A custom-designed acoustic enclosure like our SOUNDEX® system allows temporary power solutions (gensets) to be deployed without compromising workers’ and passersby health, community relations and regulatory compliance.
